Ways to Thank Your Mail Carrier this Holiday Season

Last update: 2024-12-24

Even though the end-of-year rush is customary, the holidays are the busiest period of the year for mail carriers. They already have a heavier burden than usual because of the holidays and the rush to get presents, Christmas cards, and well wishes to friends and family across the country before the snow and ice arrive. This Christmas season, please remember to thank those who work in critical services and express your gratitude for all that they do. Here are five easy but heartfelt ways to show appreciation to your mail carrier this season. The best part is that on February 4th, National Thank a Mail Carrier Day, you may reuse this list!

One way to show gratitude is to write a thank-you note

Your mail carrier will appreciate a handwritten message of gratitude very much. Pick out some fancy stationary, write out a personal note, and tell them exactly how much their assistance has meant to you and your loved ones. Instill in your children an attitude of appreciation early on by having them create thank-you notes or cards.

Send a homemade treat to your mail carrier, whether it's a package of cheese straws, a loaf of apple bread, or some Christmas candies. It could provide the necessary boost to get them through the rest of their voyage.

Make Your Own Variety Pack of Snacks

Even if you don't like to cook, you can still impress your mail carrier with a thoughtful gift basket. You can get started with just a bottle of water, some nutty trail mix, and some crisp crackers. It would be even more kind if you included their favorite sweets or snacks.

Set up a Face-to-Face Meeting

If you know when your mail carrier will be in the neighborhood, you can stop by and say hello. They will welcome the opportunity to break up the monotony of driving around the neighborhood for hours on end by seeing your smiling face, hearing your words of appreciation, and engaging in actual conversation with you.

Carrier employees of the United States Postal Service are permitted to accept presents with a total value of $20 or less each event. This means it's totally fine to give your mail carrier a token of appreciation this season.

A practical present like an insulated thermos is always appreciated, even if you don't know the carrier very well. A gift card of any value, as long as it cannot be redeemed for cash, is another option. Giving a gift card to a mom-and-pop establishment like a coffee shop or a boutique can show that you put extra effort into finding the perfect present.
